The majority of the steel we use for our knives is recycled from saw mill and band saw blades that would otherwise have ended up in landfill. Any non-recycled steel is sourced from an Australian company that we also purchase our belts and gas from. Any steel that is left over from the production of a knife is, wherever possible, repurposed into a machine, jig or forging tool.
The native Tasmanian timbers that are used for knife handles have been salvaged from logging coops, fallen trees or timbers that have been recycled from a previous life such as old boats or timber frames. To accompany our knives, we have started producing our own timber polish. This is made from local beeswax that would have otherwise be disposed of.
Our workshop is solar powered and any water that is used is collected rainwater. We also reuse deep fryer oil from the local takeaway shop when quenching our knives.
Tim spends a lot of time diving for food and says that there is nothing more sickening than seeing plastic in the ocean, so he is trying to reduce his impact wherever possible. As a result of this we are now shipping our knives in 100% compostable packaging materials.
